The Active Taxpayer List (ATL) is FBR's official record of individuals and businesses who have filed their most recent income tax return on time. Being on the ATL is not just a compliance formality — it has direct financial impact.
Why ATL status matters
- Lower withholding tax rates on bank transactions, cash withdrawals, and vehicle registration
- Reduced tax on property purchase and transfer
- Required for many government tenders and contracts
- Non-filers pay significantly higher withholding tax rates on the same transactions
How to check your ATL status
You can verify your status for free on the FBR website by searching your CNIC or NTN, or by sending your CNIC via SMS to FBR's designated ATL-check number.
How to get on the list
Filing your income tax return by the deadline for the relevant tax year automatically updates your ATL status once the return is processed. Late filers can still appear on the list in a later update, but typically pay a surcharge for being added after the original deadline.
